Travel out from Downpatrick to Inch Abbey station where a sample of the finest wines all the way from Hungary’s Takler Winery are awaiting you at our Buffet carriage. Sit back and relax in the summer sun (hopefully) whilst you sit amongst the rolling County Down drumlins, watching our 1930s steam engine come and go, whilst whetting your own whistle by trying our variety of exclusive wines, all included in the ticket price.

The Takler Winery has won numerous world wide awards for its collection of red wines, which is also complimented by a delightful white and rosé wine.

Growing and bottling its produce in the Szekszárd region of Southern Hungary – which has a history of winemaking dating back over 2000 years – the Takler Winery has won numerous worldwide awards for its collection of red wines. These will be complemented by some select white and rosé examples.

This region is most famous for its full-bodied ‘Bull’s Blood’ Bikavér, which features notes of both spice and berry. We will also be serving other reds, including Takler’s Kékfrankos reserve (a lighter, fruity red) and Cabernet Franc (an unblended red with matured tannin). Additionally, we will provide our passengers with Takler’s Flört (a crisp white) and Pinot Noir (a vibrant rosé which features strong strawberry and raspberry tones).

Whether you’re a bona fide wine aficionado or just enjoy the occasional glass and don’t know how to how to slosh, swill or sip, the ‘Whistle & Wine’ tasting train will be a ‘chilled’ way to spend a summer afternoon.
