Our policy is simple – we provide free admission for a carer accompanying a paying adult visitor (aged 18+) to our railway to any event throughout the year, including the special events at Easter, Halloween and Christmas.
This is intended for adult visitors with a physical or unseen/hidden disability which prevents them from travelling independently.
This does not apply to children aged under 18 who would otherwise be accompanied by a paying adult whether or not they had a disability.
If you feel you have special circumstances and would like to discuss your requirements, please contact us.
Proof of entitlement
As a carer, we may ask you to provide documentary proof to show that you are a carer.
- Carer’s allowance
- A doctor’s letter
- Other recognised paperwork to prove this requirement
Alternatively, the visitor who requires a carer can provide evidence of their need for a carer.
Please do not be offended if we ask for this proof. We aim to be fair and not discriminate against any visitor who requires assistance, but as a small charity with limited funds we have to make sure that people who claim free admission are properly entitled to it.
For on-the-day sales, please bring this proof with you to the station when buying your tickets in case our volunteer staff ask to see it.
If you are booking online, please contact us after you make your booking for the rest of your party, and we can add a carer to the booking free of charge.
If you have any questions about this, please contact us.
