Our diesel gala on Saturday 29th August is completely sold out – please do not travel to the railway if you have not booked.

A blustery day for the operations team

Storm Boelo struck on Saturday. However, there was no escape for our operations crew, who had to get stuck in and carry out some Halloween prep for the Phantom Flyer ghost trains.

The team had to transport some of the lighting kit and props out to Inch Abbey. They also needed to test the electrical connections from the generator to the carriages. This was to make sure there was light and some heat for anyone stationed out there. Brambles along the path were also cut back a bit.

Diesel loco 124 did the honours, the cab heaters not helping matters by steaming the windows up. This meant that the poor driver had to lean out to see properly when propelling the train out there. Poor Mike! Trainee John had a much more comfortable experience on the return trip.

As you can tell, the car park out there is a bit messy with leaves and tree debris, but there was no point trying to clean that up in the grip of a storm with gale-force winds and horizontal rain.

Hopefully Halloween is a little bit less windy and a bit dryer, or the vampire might blow away…
