Right away Mr Guard!

Right away, Mr Guard!

Easter was not only an exciting time for the hundreds of families coming to see the Easter Bunny and making off with yummy chocolate eggs, it was a pretty exciting time on Easter Sunday for trainee Des Sage.  Des was doing his assessment to pass out as guard, after putting in many hours of training.

Of course, he aced the exam without even breaking a sweat. Des also managed to be the best-dressed man on the railway in the process. Written exam, practical assessment and verbal examination were all passed with flying colours.

The role of guard is a very important one in our operations team. Guards are primarily responsible for the safety of passengers and the running of their train and ensuring everything runs smoothly on our public operating days.

In our training structure, you also need to pass out as guard before you can become a driver. Which means you know what Des is working on next.

If you would like to get involved as a volunteer on our heritage railway visit our Volunteering Page for more information.
