A switch in time

We got a bit of a helping hiab this week. A huge thank you to our friends at RIVVAL in Carrickmacross, just across the border in County Monaghan, who donated this pair of brand-new, never-used switches (part of the points that switch a train from one railway track to another). They had been set up in their yard as a demonstration set and have never had a rail wheel over them. Now no longer required, Michael Murphy asked if we’d be interested, and since we don’t get offers of brand-new materials very often, we said “yes please”.
That left the challenge of getting them to Downpatrick. With no lifting gear available in Carrickmacross and our diggers feeling a bit under the weather, a big thank you goes to Canis McKeown Jnr and his giant hiab for dropping down and delivering them safely to us.
