Sweeps, digs and sparks

Our volunteers were hard at work on Saturday with on less glamorous side of running a railway – preparing for our next public trains at Halloween. This involved sweeping up leaves, digging a grave and fixing electrical sockets.

A special train using loco 124 was taken to Inch to transport our work gang, who spent several hours clearing leaves from the car park, trimming back vegetation and weeds, and yes, digging a grave for part of this weekend’s Halloween performance. Let’s just say that digging a grave is not as easy as it sounds, and Morgan’s labourers did not manage to dig very deeply…After vandals had smashed the electrical connections at Inch Abbey Platform, some of the team were at work replacing these and testing the generator and cabling. Finally, all the passenger line points were given a thorough greasing, before we headed for home before daylight faded.

On Monday, we were very lucky that Hugh from at The Crafty Macs came down and cleared away the rest of the debris and leaves away, saving us a huge effort. Thanks Hugh!
