One day, three group visits

Last Saturday saw no less than three group visits to our heritage railway, along with a cavalcade of vintage vehicles, and a visiting researcher.

Over the course of the day we hosted groups from the Chartered Institute of Railway Operators, the Ards Peninsula U3A, and the Ulster Vintage Commercial Vehicle Club (who even brought along a host of superbly restored lorries and a 1930s fire engine). We always love welcoming group visits to our railway, and if you have one that would be interested in a visit next year, check out this page for more information.

Also at the railway was Patrick Shiels, who has just written a thesis on the sustainability of heritage railways and uses DCDR as one of its case studies. The thesis makes for very interesting reading indeed, and we were glad to see positive mention of DCDR being ahead of the curve on ways to improve sustainability!
