We’re chuffed to have been asked by the Saintfield Community Association to assist in their restoration and redevelopment of Windmill Park. As part of this development the association has been uncovering relics of the old Belfast and County Down Railway, including this fantastic stone river bridge just outside Saintfield station.
The association hit upon the idea of having a small section of track reinstated on the bridge to demonstrate the railway heritage of the site, and we are only too happy to assist.
DCDR Infrastructure manager David Crone visited the site today to assess their needs, and we will be making available some of our old wooden sleepers recovered from our south line renewal works from some years ago, along with some redundant rails for this feature.
