Volunteers continue work on new siding at Downpatrick

Our volunteers have continued their efforts to construct our new siding, and the end is now in sight. The points themselves has now been completed and the focus is now on laying the track. The first step was to level the trackbed to ensure that the sleepers would sit flat. Following this, jacks were used to align the new rails with those already in place in the shed. Then, we cut the rails to length and Chris Johnson set to work drilling holes to bolt these sections together.
Next, we positioned the sleepers with a digger, followed by hammering in the keys which lock everything together, thus connecting the siding to the shed.
All we need to do now is connect this section the points, and we will finally have linked the ‘New’ shed to the our railway.
