Playing with trains is a serious business these days, and proper training is required for many of the day to day tasks we carry out.
A lot of track work takes place during winter at our railway, when while our heritage diesel and steam trains are slumbering during the town time. This work involves lots of lifting of track components with the excavators. It is therefore important that our volunteers maintain their competency when it comes to such operations, and Safety Lift (Ireland) Ltd kindly provided slinging refresher training on Saturday, to ensure that excavator operators and ground staff are fully competent in how to attach heavy objects like sleepers to the excavator and how to unload them correctly.
A morning in the classroom was followed by practical demonstrations from all the participants who passed with flying colours.
We are very grateful to Safety Lift for their support of the railway.
