This is one we’ve been sitting on as it had been kept tightly under wraps. As some readers may remember, last year we had some work done by MJM Marine who made things like wheel chocks and door posts for our 80 class power car. Well, there’s a story behind this which can now reveal.
The new ship’s onboard experience includes a mock railway station – the “Royal Railway Utopia Station” – complete with a mock railway carriage, which been created as to provide a dining experience that simulates a virtual train ride. The experience is boosted by screens, sound effects, and vibrations to transport passengers through the American Frontier.
Over the past year, DCDR representatives were also invited to attend some of the preliminary design work at MJM Marine’s base in Newry. The imposter syndrome was real for us as the American team went through their requirements with the Newry team. But we were thoroughly impressed with the attention to detail, especially with the windows, which look just like authentic Beclawat units.
Congratulations to the MJM Marine team for being shortlisted as a finalist for “Best Onboard Experience” at the Cruise Ship Interiors (CSI) Awards for the “Royal Railway” project.
Now, our carriage team is pondering, ‘what about refitting our own buffet carriage to this standard?’.
