Down the Line Drinks Tasting

A drinks tasting experience on board our heritage diesel train

Join us for a drink tasting experience like no other in Northern Ireland on board our retro 1980s diesel train. Starting at Downpatrick, our heritage train (as seen in Derry Girls) will take you on a relaxing journey in the shadow of the Mountains of Mourne, through the ancient plains of Downpatrick to Inch Abbey.

On board the train, our drinks experts will guide you through a tasting of drinks. Whiskey, gin, wine and beer. Craig Fyfe of Fyfe’s Spirit will be leading the whiskey, gin and beer tasting, and our own resident expert will be leading the wine tasting event.

The experience will take you from Downpatrick to Inch Abbey and back, lasting approximately 50 minutes. You are welcome to visit our award-winning carriage gallery and museum before or after your train.

Saturday 25th July: Whiskey

Our master taster Craig Fyfe guides you through the tastes and heritage of some exquisite local whiskeys, each carefully selected from distilleries located along the route of the former Belfast & County Down Railway which closed in 1950. Discover the stories behind the spirit, the influence of different grains, and how to nose and taste whiskey with confidence. A relaxed and entertaining experience for both newcomers and enthusiasts.

Saturday 8th July: Gin

Join Craig Fyfe for a botanical journey through the world of gin. Sample three premium gins, learn what makes each one unique, and finish with a perfectly paired gin and mixer to round off the experience. Discover the role of botanicals, garnishes and mixers while enjoying a fun and interactive tasting.

Saturday 15th July: Wine

Join us for a journey along our scenic railway line, discovering and exploring a selection of fine wines, savouring new flavours and enjoying the craic as your wine expert guides you through the experience.

Saturday 22nd August: Beer

Discover the fantastic flavours of Northern Ireland’s brewing scene with Craig Fyfe. Taste a selection of local craft beers while exploring different beer styles, brewing techniques and flavour profiles. Whether you’re a casual beer drinker or a craft beer fan, this guided tasting offers a relaxed introduction to the people and breweries behind every pint.

Departs Downpatrick at 13:00 and 15:15 on each date.
