Join us for a special charity screening of the timeless 1937 Will Hay comedy “Oh, Mr Porter” on Saturday 24th February at 8.30pm at the historic Strand Cinema in Belfast, to help raise funds and awareness for our Flood Relief Appeal.
Following the devastating flooding in November 2023, we could be left with a repair bill for our heritage rolling stock and infrastructure of just under £3m, and this screening provides an opportunity for both film enthusiasts and supporters of the railway to come together for an evening of laughter and goodwill.
“Oh, Mr Porter” is a British comedy classic featuring the legendary Will Hay, Graham Moffatt, and Moore Marriott, and tells the story of a bumbling railway station master, played by Hay, stationed at a quiet, ramshackle station on the Northern Irish border, who unwittingly becomes embroiled in a smuggling operation across the new frontier with the Irish Free State.
Packed with humour and timeless comedic moments, the film can still entertain audiences of all ages.
So climb aboard the Comedy Express to Buggleskelly station, where the only baggage is the hilarious antics of Will Hay, and before the last train’s gone.
This special screening will also showcase this iconic film in glorious High Definition, and all proceeds from the charity screening will go directly to the Downpatrick and County Down Railway’s Flood Relief Appeal, supporting the restoration and recovery efforts necessary to preserve this vital piece of local history.
Meet in the lobby of the Strand Cinema for a wine reception before the film, making it feel like a VIP event, and, in addition to enjoying a classic comedy, attendees will have the opportunity to contribute to a meaningful cause and positively impact the recovery of the Downpatrick and County Down Railway.
