Loco shed appeal

Help us to finish the restoration of our loco shed and get back in steam!

We need your help return steam trains to Northern Ireland’s only full size heritage railway.

Use this button to donate now via PayPal – it couldn’t be easier!

It’s been a few years since we’ve been able to run steam trains at our railway. This has been down to the fact that our locomotive shed has been unusable due to the poor condition of the roof.

However, after years of planning – and yes, frustration and impatience – work has officially begun on repairs to the Maghera Locomotive Shed.

While the roof works are 80% funded by Newry, Mourne and Down District Council, we now need to raise the remaining 20% of the project costs. If you’d like to help bring steam back into action after the 2023 flood.

We have contractors engaged to replace the entire roof, sliding doors, and ventilation system, as well as a complete rewire. We would also like to repaint the walls and thoroughly clean the floor to have a shed fit for the future. All of this is expensive work for a small, volunteer-run railway like ours.

Every donation, no matter how small or large, is gratefully appreciated and by doing so you are helping to return steam trains to our railway.
