General Passenger
Information
Passengers cannot book in advance to travel. On normal operating
days (i.e. excluding Merlin/Santa/Easter) your ticket gains you
entrance to the Railway and you are welcome to stay for as long
as you wish and travel as often as you want until closing time at
5pm.
As tickets are
not pre-orderable they are only available on the day the trains
are running, and are date stamped for date of issue and are not
transferable to other days.
All children
under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a fare-paying adult.
On Red Timetable
days, passengers may alight at King Magnus' Halt (by request) or
the Loop Platform and return to Downpatrick on whichever train is
most convenient for them.
When visiting
Merlin at Hallowe'en or Santa at Christmas, the child's fare includes
a return train trip to Downpatrick Loop platform, and a present
from Merlin in his cave or from Santa in his grotto.
For teenage
children not wanting to see Santa, adult fares apply. Single tickets
are not available at Halloween/Christmas.
Tours are normally
organised for anyone wishing to have a look around the workshed,
signal cabin and engine shed.
A shop selling
souvenirs, toys and books and a display of photographs and small
artefacts is located in the station building.
A buffet carriage
is usually located at the Loop platform or bay platform at Downpatrick
Station, serving light refreshments.
